Our story begins with our name, Mackenzie. A celebration of her Scottish heritage, the name Mackenzie pays homage to founder Angela Hamwey’s family kinship and milieu that has greatly influenced her aesthetic point of view. Being that often her true home was far away, creating a real sense of home was how she evoked the essence of her most authentic self.
With a unique approach she established, Mackenzie & Co. strives to create a sense of home for our clients by providing a design experience that is meant to be savored, not rushed. We invite you to join us on this journey as we enhance each living space and brand them with a stamp of quality and elegance.
From humble beginnings in a 500-square-foot studio to opening a flagship location and boutique showroom on picturesque Cape Cod, we’ve gone beyond a brand. We offer a European-inspired lifestyle experience for our clients. We’re honored to have our work published in Real Simple, Globe magazine, Boston Home, Cape Cod Home, Cape Cod Life, and Naples Illustrated.
Our Story
FAQ
-
Full Service Design is intended for clients seeking a partner throughout all phases of the design process, from initial design concepts and plans, through to final installation. Clients may be involved in renovation or new build projects and are interested in having our studio manage the design for the majority or entirety of the home. This includes custom designs and furnishings, procurement and installation.
Full Service clients are willing to make an investment in a design partner. We work together to establish a unique design journey tailored to fit your specific project.
-
What feels like home is different for each of us, but there are elements and processes that help us discover what our clients love and ultimately come to call home. We begin with determining how our clients define beauty. We uncover your unique aesthetic and that informs the project direction.
This becomes the foundation of our work together as we collaborate to design a space that is uniquely yours. In the end, all elements of the design must come together to create a real sense of home and tell your authentic story.
-
Our team is capable of helping clients with varying project scopes and goals. We are involved in large-scale remodels, new builds, and smaller transformations. By offering custom upholstery and hand-crafted furnishings, our design process is tailored to fit your specific needs. We welcome all clients and embrace the unique journey each new project brings.
-
The sooner, the better! It's best for us to be involved from the very beginning of a project, especially with new builds or renovations. Our team can assist builders and architects in key areas such as floor plan development, interior draftings, budget, and selection of finishes.
Generally speaking, you should hire a designer at least 6-9 months before your desired completion date.
-
This varies depending on the scope of the project. In any case, you will receive a timeline estimate at the beginning of our work together. This is a shared document that outlines our process, so you always have visibility into what we’re working on. The timeline includes an estimated completion date that we hold ourselves accountable to given there are no unforeseen changes or delays to your project.
-
Absolutely not. It's our job to deliver a beautiful space within the constraints of the timeline and budget we agreed upon. If we find a very special piece that is out of budget, we will gauge your interest, but the budget will never increase without your explicit approval.
-
We pride ourselves in nurturing a collaborative relationship with each of our clients. We will guide you through your unique design journey and ask for your feedback and involvement throughout the process. Each item selected for your design will require your approval to ensure the end result is a space you love.
Leadership
Surprisingly enough, founder and creative director Angela Hamwey once dreamed of working in the fashion industry. However after completing her fashion degree, a realization occurred that her passion for textiles and good taste went far beyond clothing. Her creative intuition soon led her to Rhode Island School of Design to pursue her true calling of interior design. Her vast education coupled with her Scottish heritage have laid the foundation for what is now an award winning design studio located on quintessential Cape Cod.
Seeing a great correlation between fashion and interior design, Angela believes the way one carries themselves, from the way they speak, and the way they dress, to how they decorate their homes is a reflection of their true sense of self. As designers, we take note of all these things that make you, you. We embrace the challenge of creating a personal space and enjoy the journey we take together to uncover your most authentic style.
Passion as our fuel, we do what we do because we believe our designs will ignite a sense of fulfillment and well-being within our clients. With a distinctive European inspired lifestyle approach, we imbue the ease of living slowly, but with intention. We pride ourselves on our unique design process that is meant to be savored, not rushed. With our design sensibility as our guide, we hone in on what our clients love and eventually come to call home.
We can’t wait to help you on #thejourneyhome.
